The J.F. Johnson Lumber Company provides lumber and building material to contractors and homeowners throughout the central Maryland area – and beyond.
Through our lumber yards in Edgewater and Millersville, we’ve been building and growing with our community since 1921.
Though the J. F. Johnson Lumber Company was first incorporated in 1921, the Johnson family first arrived to Anne Arundel Country in 1902, Kingston near Crisfield on Maryland’s lower Eastern Shore.
Since those first days operating the Edgewater lumber yard that received timber from mule-drawn wagons, J.F. Johnson Lumber Company has continued to grow in the Maryland community – while having an impact on American history, too.
From residential developments in Maryland to supporting government contracts for the U.S. Naval Academy, the Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Ford Tank Works and even the U.S. Capitol Building, our humble lumberyard has experienced some historic moments.
The history that makes us most proud is the legacy we hold in our community, a legacy we’re reminded of each time customers stop by to share stories about their time coming to visit us with their grandparents.

Since 2003, we have also had a drive-thru lumberyard available at our Edgewater location. It was designed to allow our contracting clients to pick up materials by driving their trucks on a route around our warehouse.
By cutting down on how long it takes for our building partners to get their materials, we’re able to save them money and help them finish their projects on time and even ahead of schedule.
From higher-end materials to a staff that’s happy to chat with you about your next home renovation project, we make sure our customers get the support they need to get their projects done right.
We also make sure you always get the answers you need. Whether it’s your first time taking on a DIY project for your new home or you’re an experienced contractor, we’re here to support you.
Over our decades in business, we have learned that it’s just as important to provide a quality product as it is to have quality people. That’s why we prioritize our team’s wellbeing.
With team members who have been with us for over 30, 40, and 50 years, we see how a commitment to our team has played an outsized role in the legacy of the J.F. Johnson Lumber Company.
This community support ranges from large events, like our role in the Glen Burnie Centennial in 1988, to sponsorships of local teams, school plays, and our Annual Timothy Ray Invitational Golf Tournament, which began in 2018.
Our involvement also includes sponsoring both community and professional sports organizations. Since 2019, the company’s sponsorships include a sign in left field at the Baltimore Orioles’ home ballpark, Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Johnson Lumber is also a proud partner of University of Maryland athletics.
We recognize what a privilege it is to help people earn a living and set up their family’s roots in the Maryland area, and we look forward to being able to do so for many years to come.
We also look forward to building and growing with you, too. When you’re ready to talk about your next project, reach out to our team here.
